GROVE CITY, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team's season came to an end Tuesday as the fourth-seeded Titans lost 2-0 at top-seeded Grove City in the semifinal round of the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) tournament.
Grove City broke a scoreless tie in the 16th minute on a Westminster "own goal" as Wolverine Michelle Peck sent a corner kick into the box and the ball deflected off the shoulder of a Westminster defender and went into the net. The Wolverines added an insurance goal in the 63rd minute as sophomore Arielle Goyzueta booted a rebound into the goal.
Westminster freshman goalkeeper Jenn Cantella (Freedom, Pa./Freedom) stopped four shots as the Wolverines outshot the Titans, 11-8. Bethany Preston earned the shutout in net for Grove City by also making four saves.ÂÂ
Sophomore Samantha Killmeyer (Medina, Ohio/Highland) accounted for half of the Titans' shots with four.
Grove City (10-5-3) advances to host the PAC championship game on Saturday against defending champion Washington & Jefferson. Westminster's season ends with the Titans posting a final record of 13-7-1.
