Men's Basketball: Titans Can't Hang On in Loss to Unbeaten SVC

LATROBE, Pa. - The Westminster College men's basketball team lost its second straight game against an undefeated team as the Titans fell at Saint Vincent, 67-58, Wednesday night in non-conference action.

The Titans, who also lost to unbeaten Mount Union at the buzzer Monday night, fall to 0-7 on the season while the Bearcats improve to 6-0.

Junior forward Ryne Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) poured in a game-high 20 points for the Titans on 7-17 shooting including 4-11 from 3-point range. Murray also snared a team-high nine rebounds and posted three blocks.

Junior center Steve Bielich (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) bucketed 16 points to go with eight rebounds while senior guard Bobby Glass (New Castle, Pa./Neshannock) sank 11 points.

Joey Butler led the Bearcats with 17 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. Other notables for Saint Vincent included B.J. McGill with 17 points, Tre'sor Kalambay with 11 and Mike Medved with nine to go with 12 boards.

Westminster shot 43.8 percent (21-48) from the floor - including 11-24 from 3-point range - compared to Saint Vincent's 33.9 percent (21-62) from the field, but the Titans committed 31 turnovers against Saint Vincent's 15 turnovers.

The Titans led by as many as five points in the first half before maintaining a 28-26 halftime lead. Westminster then went up by as many as seven points (42-35 with 10:48 left in the game) before the Bearcats tied the game at 44-44 at the 8:30 mark, took the lead one minute later, and never trailed for the remainder of the game.

Saint Vincent broke open the game in the final 3:23 when, after a Murray jumper cut SVC's lead to 55-51, the Bearcats proceeded to go up by 12 points less than two minutes later thanks to an 8-0 run.

Westminster returns to action Saturday at home vs. Grove City for a 4 p.m. tip as the second game of a men's and women's doubleheader.
