NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team saw its 11-match unbeaten streak come to an end Wednesday night with a 3-1 loss at home against Grove City in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match at Harold Burry Stadium.
The Titans (13-3-2, 4-1-1 PAC) held a one-goal lead from most of the match before Grove City (10-7-2, 5-2 PAC) netted three goals in the final 14 minutes.
Westminster got on the board when sophomore Danielle Struble (Curwensville, Pa./Curwensville) scored off an assist from freshman Samantha Killmeyer (Medina, Ohio/Highland) in the ninth minute.
Killmeyer, who leads NCAA Division III with 0.94 assists per game, registered her 16th assist of the season to tie the school record held by Tammy Newell who also assisted on 16 goals in 2001.
Grove City tied the game in the 76th minute on an own goal when a Westminster player tried clearing a cross in front of Titan goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview).
Mellott made two saves and allowed three goals while Grove City's Diana Pragel stopped four balls.
The game-winning goal came in the 78th minute when Sarah Griffin deposited a free kick from the right side over Mellott's right shoulder.
After Struble's shot sailed high for Westminster's best scoring opportunity to tie the game, Grove City added a late insurance goal in the 88th minute when Emily Ostlund chipped in the Wolverines' third marker from 20 yards out to seal the win.
Westminster will close out its regular season at Chatham on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Titans will need a win and some help to secure the top seed in next week's PAC Tournament.
