Women's Soccer: Titans Explode with Five Goals in Win Over Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team snapped out of its four-game winless streak in impressive fashion on Tuesday night. The Titans defeated visiting Saint Vincent College, 5-2, after the teams were deadlocked at two goals apiece at halftime.

Westminster (3-3-1) broke out of a scoring slump in which it managed just one goal in the previous four matches by unloaded a 26-shot, five-goal barrage on the Bearcats. Junior forward Mallory Bugel (Valencia, Pa./Mars) led the attack with two goals to go with two assists giving her six points for the match and 11 on the year.

Bugel, who along with Christina Adams (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) led the team with five shots, scored on a Michelle Latta-Maloney (Oakdale, Pa./South Fayette) assist in the 39th minute to give the Titans a 2-1 lead. Later in the second half, Bugel booted the game-winner on assists from senior forward Sarah Calderone (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) and senior forward Christa Andamasaris (West Farmington, Ohio/Champion).

Andamasaris assisted on two goals during the game, the other on Calderone's 22nd-minute goal which tied the game 1-1. The two assists gives Andamasaris 20 for her career as she now becomes just one of five players in the history of Westminster women's soccer with 20 or more career assists.

With the Titans clinging to a 3-2 second-half lead, sophomore Abby Montgomery (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) and freshman Lauren Graeser (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) were able to give the Titans insurance goals in the 59th and 74th minutes, respectively.

Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) helped shutout the Bearcats in the second half as she made three saves for the game.

Founded in 1852 and related to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Westminster College is ranked among national leaders in graduation rate performance, according to U.S. News Guide to America's Best Colleges, and is one of the most affordable national liberal arts colleges in Pennsylvania. Westminster is also honored as one of "The Best 361 Colleges" and "Best in the Northeast" by The Princeton Review, and was recognized by the Templeton Guide as a "Character Building College."
