MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Westminster College women's soccer team lost its first match of the season and gave up its first goals of the season in a 3-1 setback at Allegheny on Saturday night in non-conference action.
The Titans (2-1-1) trailed 1-0 at halftime after the Gators' Katie Murphy scored on a penalty kick in the 22nd minute.
After Allegheny's Christy McShea scored in the 54th minute, Murphy netted her second goal of the game in the 72nd minute to give the Gators a 3-0 lead. Murphy buried a rebound off Westminster freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) following another penalty kick.
Mellott made seven saves despite giving up her first three goals of her college career. Allegheny, now 2-2-0 on the season, out-shot Westminster 19-11.
The Titan's lone goal came in the waning moments as junior defender Kristen Martin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) received a pass on the left wing from junior midfielder Kait Etzel-Hardman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) and scored from 30 yards out in the 83rd minute.
Westminster returns to action Friday at Penn State-Behrend beginning at 3 p.m.
