WILDNER, Ky. - The Westminster College women's soccer team won the 2006 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) championship late Saturday night over defending champion and top-seeded Thomas More. The match, held at the Town & Country Soccer Complex in Wildner, Ky., remained scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods and was decided on penalty kicks.
The Titans, three-time PAC champions from 2002-04, came away victorious with four consecutive successful penalty kick attempts, while Thomas More sandwiched failed kicks in its first and fifth attempts around three successful penalty kicks.
Sophomore midfielder Christina Adams (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard), junior defender Brittany McKee (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) and sophomore defender Jessi Losteter (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) each scored on their penalty kick attempts for the Titans before junior defender Kristen Martin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) connected on the eventual game-winner.
Westminster held a 12-8 shooting advantage over Thomas More in regulation and overtime, while adding a 6-0 margin in corner kicks. Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) made one save in goal in regulation and overtime for the Titans.
Westminster finishes the season 13-5-2 as it awaits a potential bid in the NCAA Division III playoffs.
