Women's Soccer: Sarah Calderone's Two Goals Lifts Titans to PAC Win Over W&J

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Senior forward Sarah Calderone scored the game-tying and game-winning goals for the Westminster College women's soccer team as it secured a 3-2 win at home Saturday over Washington & Jefferson in the Titans' Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) opener.

Calderone (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) broke a 2-2 tie with her goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Abby Montgomery (McMurray, Pa./Peters Township) with four minutes to go in regulation in the 86th minute.

The Titans twice faced one-goal deficits during the game. W&J's Molly Maclose opened the scoring for the Presidents in the 42nd minute before the Titans' junior Kait Etzel-Hardman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) answered less than a minute later on a goal off a free kick.

Maclose scored her second goal of the game at the 48-minute mark in the second half to give W&J the lead back.

Calderone then scored the first of her two goals in the game in the 69th minute on assists from Kristen Martin (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and Sarah Park (Port Matilda, Pa./State College).

Freshman goalkeeper Lindsey Mellott (Cortland, Ohio/Lakeview) made six saves to earn the win as the Titans out-shot the Presidents 15-10.

Westminster improves to 7-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the PAC, while W&J falls to 0-2 and 5-6-1 in league matches.
