PITTSBURGH--The Westminster women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback at Carnegie Mellon Tuesday night, falling by set scores of 17-25, 14-25, 15-25.

Tuesday was the season-opening match for both schools.

The Titans totaled 11 kills in the opening set, led by three each from seniors Zoie Reid (Salem, Ohio, Salem) and Liv Trent (Pittsburgh, Pa., Brentwood), but Carnegie Mellon finished with 16 kills in a 25-17 set win.

Carnegie Mellon took the second set 25-14 and finished with 17 kills to the Titans' eight. A six-point serving stretch by Dani Lee pushed Carnegie Mellon from 7-4 to 13-4, including Lee's ace and kills by Brynn Shearn and Sophie Pan, while junior Dakota Hershberger (Belleville, Pa., Mifflin County) and Trent had two kills apiece for the Titans.

The Titans had seven kills in the third set, led by two apiece from Trent and freshman Violet Seaman (Hartville, Ohio, Lake), while senior Anna-Kate Davis (Boonsboro, Md., Boonsboro) added a kill, a service ace and three assists.

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Latrobe, Pa., for Saint Vincent's Bearcat Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The Titans will open against RIT Friday at 2 p.m.
