Westminster wins program-record 11th game Wednesday night

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster men's lacrosse team concluded its regular season with a 13-5 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory at Allegheny Wednesday night. 

Westminster improved to 11-6 overall and 6-3 in the PAC. The Titans' 11 victories are the most single-season wins in program history. With Wednesday's win, Westminster clinched the No. 4 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament. 

Westminster jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one quarter and led 7-3 heading into the break. The Titans outscored the Gators 6-2 in the second half. 

Sophomore Ethan Kurtz (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) finished with four goals and three ground balls while junior Grady Tierney (Clear Lake Shores, Texas, Houston Christian), back after missing the previous four games, finished with three goals. He scored the game's first goal 21 seconds into the opening period. Freshman Garrett Henning (Irwin, Pa., Norwin) had a pair of assists while junior Tyler Evangelista (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) and freshman Brendan Robinson (Gainesville, Va., Gainesville) each had one goal and one assist. 

Sophomore Jack Poller (Huntington, N.Y., Harborfields) had one goal, six ground balls and three caused turnovers while freshman Adam Teixeira (Sparta, N.J., Sparta) picked up five ground balls. Senior Asher Silberling (Redondo Beach, Calif., Redondo Union) finished with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Sophomore Jack Steimle (Mount Sinai, N.Y., Mount Sinai) was 11-of-19 from the faceoff X to go along with four ground balls. 

Westminster outshot Allegheny 48-30 and had the advantage in shots on goal, 30-11. The Titans finished 22-of-27 on clears. 

Up next:
Westminster will host No. 5 Franciscan (8-8, 5-4 PAC) in the quarterfinal round of the PAC Championship Tournament Saturday. The opening faceoff from the UPMC Sports Complex is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Saturday will mark the program's first-ever home playoff game.
