Titans open Myrtle Beach trip with a pair of wins

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--The Westminster baseball team opened its trip to the Ripken Experience Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Rivier, winning game one, 6-1, before taking the nightcap, 5-3.

Game 1: Westminster 6, Rivier 1
Junior right-hander Tyson Djakovich (Hermitage, Pa., Hickory) went 6.0 innings to secure his first win of the year, allowing one run (unearned) on seven hits with a career-high 10 strikeouts. He had a pair of no-decisions entering Sunday's start. Sophomore righty Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) struck out the side in the seventh. 

Sophomore Aaron Jones (Buffalo, N.Y., Canisius) went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot. He scored once and had a career-high four stolen bases. Junior Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) and freshman Conner Adams (Wellsboro, Pa., Wellsboro) each recorded two hits, with both collecting a double. Sophomore Ian Temple (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) had an RBI groundout in the first and run-scoring single in the seventh. 

Game 2: Westminster 5, Rivier 3
Trailing 2-1 after two-and-a-half innings, junior Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) and sophomore Jack Strausser (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) belted run-scoring doubles in the bottom of the third to tie the game at 3-all. Temple's two-out, RBI single in the fifth pushed the Titans' lead to 4-3 before Lyons drew a bases-loaded walk in the sixth. 

Junior righty Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) went 5.0 innings in the no-decision, allowing three runs (3 earned) on five hits with five strikeouts and a walk. Freshman right-hander Jacob Harrelson (Canal Fulton, Ohio, Green) claimed the first victory of his career in the nightcap, allowing one hit while striking out three in 2.0 scoreless relief innings. 

Marquis finished 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, an RBI and two runs scored. Lyons' RBI base hit in the first game Westminster a 1-0 lead.

Westminster is scheduled to take on Lancaster Bible Monday. The first pitch from Griffith Field is scheduled for 9 a.m.
