Baseball recognized with ABCA's Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C.--The Westminster baseball program claimed the 2025-26 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) Team Academic Excellence Award Wednesday morning.

The ABCA recognized over 800 member college and high school programs from across the country with its Team Academic Excellence Award, presented by Sports Attack. Teams from every level of college and high school were honored with this year's award, which highlights programs coached by ABCA members that posted a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale for during the 2025-26 academic year. Nearly 500 college programs and more than 320 high school programs were recognized with this year's award.

Westminster was one of seven Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) programs to claim the Team Academic Excellence Award in 2025-26. Led by eighth-year head coach Patrick Riley, Westminster has earned the ABCA's Team Excellence Award for five-straight years (2022-26). The Titans produced a team cumulative GPA of 3.31 this year. 

Westminster closed the season with a 28-12 overall record, matching the program's single-season wins record, and finished 17-5 in the PAC. The Titans secured the No. 1 seed in the PAC Championship Tournament before their postseason run came to an end with losses to No. 6 Chatham and No. 5 Grove City. Rising juniors Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) and Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) highlighted six all-conference selections, with both earning First Team All-PAC.

A right-handed pitcher, Carrier went 5-1 with three saves and a 1.51 earned-run average (ERA) in 17 appearances. He threw 35.2 innings and allowed nine runs (6 earned) on 32 hits with three walks and 32 strikeouts. He is ranked in the top 10 in the PAC in victories (5) and saves (3). He posted a career-high five strikeouts in an 8-2 game two win at Thiel on April 22. 

A shortstop, Rook made 38 starts and hit .338 with six doubles, 23 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He was 10-of-12 on stolen base attempts. Rook finished the year with 12 multi-hit games, including a five-hit effort against Immaculata on March 11. He had an 11-game hitting streak between April 8-25. 

Eleven members of the baseball program qualified for the PAC's Academic Honor Roll this spring, which recognizes members of varsity sports teams who earned a GPA of 3.6 or higher during their semester of competition. Rising seniors Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry), Nate Demchak (Monroeville, Pa., Gateway), Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) and Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland), along with Rook, were named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® selections on June 4. Lyons and Marquis were named Academic All-District® for the second-straight year. This is the first Academic All-District® selection for Albers, Demchak and Rook.
