Men's lacrosse dealt home loss by Muskingum

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster men's lacrosse team was dealt a 12-9 loss by Muskingum Wednesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster fell to 1-4 while Muskingum ran its record this season to 3-0. 

The Titans outscored the Fighting Muskies 3-1 in the first and 2-1 in the second to take a 5-2 lead into the half. Muskingum erupted with four-straight goals to open the third quarter and went into the fourth leading by one, 8-7. Kurtz's goal with 6:40 remaining tied the game at 9-all before Muskingum scored three-in-a-row in the final five-and-a-half minutes to secure the non-conference win.

Sophomore Ethan Kurtz (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) finished with five goals while senior Kyler Nigliazzo (Montgomery, Texas, Magnolia West) finished with two goals and two assists. Junior Anthony Trella (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) and freshman Brendan Robinson (Gainesville, Va., Gainesville) each had a goal. 

Sophomore Jack Steimle (Mount Sinai, N.Y., Mount Sinai) went 17-of-22 in the faceoff circle and added eight ground balls. Sophomore Jack Poller (Huntington, N.Y., Harborfields) finished with two ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) had seven saves. 

Evan Cosgrove led Muskingum with four goals and three assists. Jaeden Klimkowski finished with 16 saves. 

Westminster outshot Muskingum 42-38 and had the advantage in shots on goal, 25-19. Muskingum went 27-of-28 on clears while Westminster finished 20-of-25. 

Up Next
Westminster will travel to Winchester, Va. next Wednesday to take on Shenandoah. The opening faceoff from Glo Fiber Field at Shentel Stadium is set for 4 p.m.
