Westminster secures sweep against Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster baseball team earned a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) sweep over Grove City Tuesday, posting a 7-6 game one win and a 3-0 victory in the nightcap. 

Westminster, winners of five straight, improved to 12-4 overall and 4-0 in the PAC. 

Game 1: Westminster 7, Grove City 6
Freshman right-hander Jacob Harrelson (Canal Fulton, Ohio, Green) ran his record to 3-0 with the win, allowing three runs (3 earned) on seven hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings. Freshman righty Nate Lemke (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) threw the final 2.0 innings, allowing three runs (3 earned) on three hits. 

Junior Quinn Marquis (Hinckley, Ohio, Highland) went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases. It was his fourth three-hit game this season. Junior Nate Demchak (Monroeville, Pa., Gateway) was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs. Junior Braden Zeigler (New Castle, Pa., Shenango) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. 

Game 2: Westminster 3, Grove City 0
Junior right-hander Jon Albers (Corry, Pa., Corry) fired a career-high 8.0 innings to pick up his first victory of the year. He fanned a career-high 10 batters while allowing six hits and walking two. Sophomore righty Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) allowed two hits and struck out a pair in the ninth to earn his third save this season. 

Sophomore Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Zeigler was 2-for-2 with two walks while junior Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) went 2-for-4. 

Up next:
Westminster hosts Heidelberg (10-8) Wednesday. The opening pitch of the single, nine-inning game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
