Mollo leads the way in win over Heidelberg

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Senior Jonathan Mollo (Germantown, N.Y., Germantown Central) fired 6.0 strong innings to help lift the Westminster baseball team to an 11-2 victory over Heidelberg Wednesday afternoon. 

Westminster, winners of six straight, improved to 13-4 this season. 

Mollo improved to 2-0 with the win. He allowed one run (earned) on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Sophomore Brandon Roher (Trafford, Pa., Penn-Trafford) threw 2.0 scoreless relief innings.

Trailing 1-0 after one, Westminster evened things up at 1-1 in the second before scoring twice in the third and fourth innings to grab a 5-1 lead. The Titans put together a four-run eighth, capped by freshman Troy Leas' (Pittsburgh, Pa., Shaler) two-run home run. It was his first collegiate hit. 

Freshman Breckin Minich (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Sophomore Jack Strausser (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 2-for-4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a stolen base. Junior Nate Demchak (Monroeville, Pa., Gateway) was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. 

Up next:
Westminster returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action Saturday at Saint Vincent. The first pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
