Game Recap: Softball |

Westminster splits final day at THE Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla.--Senior Jenna Boneysteele (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) delivered a walkoff base hit to lift the Westminster softball team to a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Carthage before the Titans dropped a 3-2 decision to Utica Friday at THE Spring Games.

Westminster finished its spring break trip with a 5-5 record.

Westminster 7, Carthage 6
Sophomore right-hander Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) earned her third-straight complete game win of the spring against Carthage, allowing six runs (4 earned) on eight hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

Tied 6-6 midway through the seventh, freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) drilled a two-out, RBI base hit to center to score sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin), who reached out a fielder's choice earlier in the inning. Junior Leah Taliani (Arnold, Pa., Valley) drew a walk, her second of the game, before Boneysteele's game-winning single scored Anthony.

Anthony went 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to give Westminster a 5-4 lead. She also walked three times and scored twice. Jordan finished 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored.

Utica 3, Westminster 2
Scoreless through four innings, Utica plated one run in the fifth and two more in the sixth to go up 3-0. Freshmen Izzie Lefebvre (Midland, Pa., Lincoln Park) and Carissa Tekely (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch) both scored on sophomore Sam Levac's (Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Garth Webb) sacrifice fly in the top of the seventh.

Junior righty Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) took the loss, allowing three runs (2 earned) on five hits and a pair of walks in 5.2 innings.

Jordan went 2-for-3 with a triple, a walk and a stolen base.
