Westminster opens PAC schedule with sweep of Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa.--The Westminster softball team opened its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) slate on Saturday with a sweep of Geneva, winning the opener 7-1 before earning a 5-1 victory in game two. 

Westminster improved to 7-5 overall and 2-0 in the conference. The program has won eight straight and 11 of its last 12 games against Geneva dating back to 2023.

Game 1: Westminster 7, Geneva 1
Sophomore right-hander Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) won her fourth-straight start Saturday, improving to 4-2 this season. She allowed one run (earned) on three hits with a walk and 10 strikeouts in the complete game victory. 

Junior Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) went 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. It was the first four-hit game of her career. Junior Ava Karpa (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) was 3-for-3 with two walks and an RBI. Freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) went 2-for-3 with two walks and a run scored while sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) hit her third home run of the season in the sixth inning. 

Game 2: Westminster 5, Geneva 1
Leading 2-1 through five innings, the Titans used a three-run sixth to snag the four-run win. 

Junior righty Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) evened her record at 3-3 win the win. She allowed one run (earned) on six hits with one strikeout in 4.0 innings. Piper threw the final 3.0 innings to secure the save, the first of her career. 

Sophomore Sam Levac (Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Garth Webb) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Jones was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Karpa went 1-for-two with two RBIs. 

Jones, Jordan and sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart), who had a base hit in the sixth, are all riding eight-game hitting streaks. 

Up next:
Westminster will open its home schedule Wednesday against Chatham (4-10, 1-1 PAC). The first pitch of the PAC doubleheader is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
