Westminster falls to Immaculata

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--The Westminster baseball team raced out to a 6-0 lead after five innings, but Immaculata used an eight-run sixth to stun the Titans 8-6 Wednesday afternoon at the Polo Grounds inside The Ripken Experience. 

Senior lefty Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa., Blackhawk), making his first start in 319 days, working 5.0 scoreless innings in the no-decision. He allowed five hits and struck out three. Senior righty Tyler Staub (Edinburg, Pa., Union) entered for Reed in the sixth and surrendered four runs (3 earned) on one hit and three walks before giving way to freshman right-hander Nate Lemke (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley), who was saddled with the loss (1-1) after allowing four runs (4 earned) on three hits with a walk in one-third of an inning. Sophomore righty Ty Carrier (New Bethlehem, Pa., Redbank Valley) fired 3.2 scoreless innings to finish the game. 

Freshman Tom Rook (Clarence Center, N.Y., Clarence) went 5-for-5 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Wednesday was the first multi-hit game of his career. Junior Parker Lyons (Rochester, Pa., Rochester) finished 3-for-5 with an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base. 

Up next:
Westminster (6-3) will face Bridgewater State (4-2) Thursday at the Polo Grounds. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
