Titans split day at THE Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla.--The Westminster softball team worked a split on Tuesday at THE Spring Games, falling to Penn State Brandywine, 10-7, before posting a 7-1 victory over Pitt-Greensburg.

The Nittany Lions used a four-run third inning and a five-run fourth to spur their win over the Titans.

Sophomore Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) went 3-for-3 with a triple, walk, RBI and run scored. Freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) finished 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two runs scored while sophomore Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Junior Faith Jones (Volant, Pa., Wilmington) finished 2-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. 

Junior righty Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio, Boardman) took the loss, allowing six runs (5 earned) on seven hits with two walks in 3.1 innings. Senior rght-hander Jenna Boneysteele (Carnegie, Pa., Chartiers Valley) gave up four runs (1 earned) on four hits with three walks and a strikeout in 3.2 innings.

Sophomore right-hander Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) picked up her first victory of the spring against the Bobcats, allowing one run (earned) on three hits with nine strikeouts in a complete-game effort. 

Jones went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a run scored. Jordan was 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and two runs scored. Her two-run home run in the top of the fifth was her first of the year. Junior Leah Taliani's (Arnold, Pa., Valley) two-out, run-scoring single in the second staked Westminster to a 1-0 lead. 

Up next:
After an off day Wednesday, Westminster will return to action Thursday at the Fortune Road Complex, taking on Ohio Northern at 9 a.m. and Thomas at 1:30 p.m.
