Titans take two on Thursday

CLERMONT, Fla.--The Westminster softball team claimed a pair of victories Thursday at THE Spring Games, defeating Ohio Northern 3-2 before posting a 9-1, five-inning win over Thomas.

Westminster evened its record at 4-4 with Thursday's wins.

Sophomore right-hander Cheyenne Piper (Latrobe, Pa., Ligonier Valley) delivered a gritty performance in the complete game, come-from-behind win, giving up two runs (1 earned) on three hits with a walk and five strikeouts. 

Westminster, trailing 2-0 after one, cut the Ohio Northern lead to 2-1 in second after a executing a daring two-out double steal with sophomore Sam Levac (Oakville, Ontario, Canada, Garth Webb) swiping second and freshman Kylie Anthony (Harrison City, Pa., Penn-Trafford) taking home. Sophomores Lily Jordan (Rural Valley, Pa., West Shamokin) and Morgan O'Brien (Coraopolis, Pa., Our Lady of the Sacred Heart) smacked back-to-back two-out, run-scoring doubles in the top of the fifth to give the Titans a 3-2 lead. 

Levac went 1-for-3 with a run and two stolen bases. Anthony finished 1-for-3 with a double and a stolen base.

The Titans struck for four runs in each of the first two innings, keyed by O'Brien's two-run double in the first and Jordan's three-run home run in the second. It was her second this spring. Jordan's RBI single in the fourth pushed the lead to 9-0. 

Junior righty Natalie Davis (Youngstown, Ohio) earned the win in the circle, allowing three hits and a walk with a pair of strikeouts in 4.0 innings. Junior right-hander Riley Salazar (Elizabeth, Pa.) gave up one run (earned) on two hits and a walk in the fifth. 

Levac finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base. Jordan went 2-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and a run scored. 

Up next:
Westminster wraps up its 10-game Florida swing on Friday. The Titans will take on Carthage at 9 a.m. and Utica at 1:45 p.m. at the Fortune Road Complex in Kissimmee.
