Westminster women third at PAC Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--Westminster's women's indoor track and field team registered a third-place finish at the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships Thursday at Youngstown State's Watson and Tressel Training Site (WATTS).

Westminster finished with 84.50 points at the 11-team, 16-event championship. Geneva earned the team title with 127 points. Grove City was the runner-up (122). 

Senior Missy Treharne (Burton, Ohio, Beaumont School) won the pole vault, clearing a personal-best 3.88 meters (12-08.75). It ranks as the No. 13 mark in Division III. She was the runner-up in the event last year. Sophomore Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) was the runner-up after clearing 3.68 meters (12-00.72). Freshman Aubrey Rock (Butler, Pa., Butler) was third (3.68m, 12-00.75) and freshman Meghan Vadas (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch) was fifth (2.83m, 9-03.25). 

Senior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) won the shot put with a top mark of 13.12 meters (43-00.50). She also finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles (10.05) and eighth in the weight throw (12.92m, 42-04.75). 

Junior Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau) finished as runner-up in the 400 meters (59.26) and was third in the 200 meters (26.63). Iwig placed third in the high jump (1.55m, 5-01) and senior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) finished fourth in the 60 hurdles with a personal-best time of 9.79 and eighth in the high jump (1.50m, 4-11). Freshman Zoe Puhala (Brockway, Pa., Brockway) was fifth in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:20.49 while Vadas was seventh in the shot put (11.11m, 36-05.50) and weight throw with a personal-best mark of 13.18 meters (43-03). 

The 4x400-meter relay finished in second place, posting a time of 4:12.38. Members of the relay included Zendron, freshman Natalie Weiland (Mars, Pa., North Catholic), Essey and Puhala. 

Senior Alexa Young (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mount Lebanon) was recognized as a member of the PAC's Sportsmanship Team at the conclusion of the event Thursday. The PAC Sportsmanship Teams were established to recognize student-athletes who have distinguished themselves through demonstrated acts of sportsmanship and ethical behavior and are an ongoing effort to recognize and encourage positive sportsmanship among all PAC teams.

Westminster is scheduled to compete at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships Friday-Saturday, March 6-7. The two-day event will be held at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory in New York City.
