Rambo, Iwig secure podium finishes at All-Atlantic Championships

NEW YORK--Westminster senior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) and sophomore Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) registered seventh-place finishes at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Championships Friday. The two-day event is being held at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory.

Rambo finished in seventh place in the 27-participant shot put competition, posting a top mark of 12.85 meters (42-02) on her second attempt. Iwig finished in a three-way tie for seventh in the 24-competitor pole vault event, clearing 3.57 meters (11-08.50). 

Freshman Zoe Puhala (Brockway, Pa., Brockway) is scheduled to compete in the 800 meters at 12:35 p.m. Saturday. 

Up next:
Qualifying student-athletes will compete at the Division III Championships, scheduled for Friday-Saturday, March 13-14 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Ala. The event is being hosted by the city of Birmingham and Birmingham-Southern College. The final descending-order list will be posted by 9 a.m. on Sunday. For each men's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each woman's individual event contested, including the pentathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes will be accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 12 declared relay teams will be accepted into the competition.

Also, Westminster's outdoor season will get underway March 13-14 at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. Hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach, the two-day event is being held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
