Westminster rolls in home opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Freshman Brendan Robinson (Gainesville, Va., Gainesville) had three goals and an assist in Westminster's 9-3 home-opening victory over Marietta Tuesday night at the UPMC Sports Complex.

Westminster, up 2-0 after one quarter, used a 4-1 spurt in the second to take a 6-1 lead into the break. Robinson had a pair of first half goals. Sophomore Ethan Kurtz (Hummelstown, Pa., Lower Dauphin) scored off Robinson's assist just over a minute into the third to push the lead to 7-1 before Robinson netted his third of the day off an assist by junior Tyler Evangelista (Glenshaw, Pa., Shaler) to push the Titans' lead to 8-1.

Robinson has posted multi-point efforts in each of Westminster's two games this year.

Senior Jahiem Hawkins (Huntington Station, N.Y., Huntington) had four ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore Tanner Crosby (Park City, Utah, Park City) added three ground balls and three caused turnovers. Senior Shawn Wooles (Hampton, N.H., Winnacunnet) and sophomore Jack Poller (Huntington, N.Y., Harborfields) had three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers each.

Senior Jorden Tate (Cranberry Township, Pa., Seneca Valley) made six saves and had a ground ball in the win.

Westminster outshot Marietta 39-22 and finished with a 17-9 advantage in shots on goal. The Titans were 26-of-30 on clear attempts.

Westminster returns to action on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Oberlin. The opening faceoff from the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex and Dick Bailey Field is slated for 5:30 p.m.
