McClain wins 200 free, 500 free against Mount Union

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Junior Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) swam to a pair of first-place finishes Saturday in Westminster's tri-meet against Mount Union and Franciscan. 

Mount Union defeated Westminster 196-87 and Franciscan 243-25. Westminster secured a 200-40 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over the Barons. 

McClain was first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2 minutes, 04.56 seconds and won the 500 in 5:30.03. She was second in the 200 IM (2:21.97).

Westminster opened the meet with a runner-up finish in the 200 medley relay (2:03.16). Relay members included McClain and freshmen Olivia Schrock (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield), Nina Nappo (Columbiana, Ohio, Columbiana) and Rachel Rospierski (Erie, Pa., Fairview)

Schrock won the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:23.51 and was the runner-up in the 100 backstroke (1:07.96). Junior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:26.95 and finished third in the 500 (5:49.98).

Rospierski was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle (26.73). Nappo finished third in the 200 butterfly (2:30.57), the 200 breaststroke (2:53.12) and the 200 IM (2:28.63). Freshman Brianna Reinhart (Pittsburgh, Pa., North Allegheny) was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:21.66) and the 100 freestyle (1:01.00) while sophomore Daphne Gindlesperger (McKean, Pa., General McLane) finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:16.48).

Up Next:
Westminster will travel to Latrobe next Saturday to take on Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Saint Vincent. The meet inside the Frank and Elizabeth Resnick Pool is scheduled to get underway at 1 p.m.
