Rambo fifth in shot put at Akron

AKRON, Ohio--Senior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) scored a pair of top 20 finishes Friday at Akron's Seventh Annual Al Campbell Invitational, held inside the Stile Athletics Field House.

Rambo finished fifth in the shot put with a top throw of 11.88 meters (38-11.75) and was 20th in the weight throw (13.54m, 44-05.25), which currently ranks as the No. 2 throw in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) this season. Senior Missy Treharne (Burton, Ohio, Beaumont School) placed eighth in the pole vault, clearing 3.51 meters (11-06.25), which is tied for the No. 2 mark in the PAC. 

Freshman Meghan Vadas (Youngstown, Ohio, Austintown Fitch) and junior Molly Gibson (Leetonia, Ohio, Leetonia) finished 17th and 20th, respectively, in the shot put. Vadas posted a top throw of 10.55 meters (34-07.50) while Gibson registered a top throw of 9.82 meters (32-02.75). Senior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) tied for 20th in the high jump (1.45m, 4-09), which is tied for the seventh-best mark in the PAC, and finished 24th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles (10.10). It is the fourth-best time in the PAC this season. Freshman Zoe Puhala (Brockway, Pa., Brockway) was 25th in the 800 (2:36.47) and 48th in the mile (5:54.94). Her times currently rank as fourth-best in the PAC in each event. 

Westminster wrapped up the day with a fourth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay (4:28.03). It is the top time in the PAC this year. Relay members included junior Jenna Zendron (West Sunbury, Pa., Moniteau), freshman Natalie Weiland (Mars, Pa., North Catholic), senior Abigail Painter (Ligonier, Pa., Ligonier Valley) and Essey. 

Up next:
Westminster will travel to Geneva, Ohio next Saturday to compete in the SPIRE Invitational.
