Harrell, Weir spark overtime win over Saint Vincent

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) poured in a career-high 32 points and senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) registered a 27-point, 12-rebound double-double to lead Westminster to a gritty 89-83 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) overtime victory against Saint Vincent at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium Saturday evening.

Saturday was Westminster's first overtime win since its 71-69 home victory over W&J on Jan. 10, 2024.

Harrell finished 11-of-21 from the floor and was 2-of-3 from beyond the three-point line. He went 8-of-11 from the free throw line. Harrell added seven rebounds and three assists. He has scored 20 or more points six times this season, including the last five-straight games. The double-double was Weir's fourth this season. He went 8-of-12 from the field. Senior Trey DePietro (Boardman, Ohio, Boardman) totaled 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting while freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy), making his fourth-straight start, chipped in with 10 points and four assists.

Jaden Gales and Jevontae Jones scored 19 points apiece for Saint Vincent (7-6, 2-2 PAC).

Trailing by as many as 16, 56-40, in the second half, Saint Vincent tied the game at 71-all on a Jones' layup with just over a minute-and-a-half left in regulation. Harrell went 3-of-4 from the line down the stretch to put Westminster (8-5, 3-1 PAC) ahead by three, 77-74, before Dev Ostroski knocked down a 26-footer with two seconds to go, sending the game into overtime tied 77-77.

Harrell (7) and Weir (5) scored all 12 Westminster points in overtime, helping the Titans double-up the Bearcats in the extra period. The two combined to go 4-of-5 from the floor and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. Weir's straightaway three-point bucket with just over three minutes remaining extended the Titans' lead to four, 84-80, before Harrell's driving layup with 53 seconds left in the overtime period stretched the Titans' lead to nine, 89-80.

Westminster combined to shoot 56.4 percent (31-55) from the floor and went 23-of-30 from the free throw line--both season highs.
