Westminster rolls past Hiram

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) fired in a career-high 17 points while graduate student DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) scored 18 to lead Westminster to a 68-54 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over Hiram Wednesday night at Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Winners of four straight, Westminster upped its overall record to 9-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play with Wednesday's win. The victory marked the program's sixth win this season decided by 10 or more points. Hiram fell to 5-10 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Ryan, making his fifth-straight start, scored 17 on 6-of-11 shooting. He knocked down 2-of-6 three-point attempts and went 3-of-4 from the free throw line. Ryan added seven rebounds and a pair of assists. Harrell finished 5-of-11 from the field and hit eight of his 11 attempted free throws. He has scored eight or more points from the free throw line in three-straight games. Harrell added six rebounds and four assists. Sophomore Carter Anderson (Morgantown, W.Va., The Linsly School) chipped in with eight points while junior Skevos Kouros (Youngstown, Ohio, Campbell) snagged a season-high eight boards. 

Collin Jones finished with 13 points for Hiram.

Westminster, fueled by a 12-point scoring run, stretched its first half lead to as many as 21, 34-13, with just over four minutes before the break. Ryan scored his 14th point of the first with a minute-and-a-half left, helping the Titans double up the Terriers, 36-18, heading into halftime. 

The Titans maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second. Harrell scored 13 of his 18 in the second half. 

Westminster outrebounded Hiram 42-30, including a 10-3 edge on the offensive glass.

Westminster will travel to Steubenville, Ohio Saturday to take on Franciscan (11-3, 3-2 PAC). Tipoff from Finnegan Fieldhouse is scheduled for 3 p.m. Franciscan secured an 89-73 win over Bethany Wednesday evening.
