Men's soccer dealt home shutout loss by Carnegie Mellon

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College men's soccer program was dealt a 6-0 shutout by visiting Carnegie Mellon Saturday afternoon at the UPMC Sports Complex. 

Westminster is now 0-6-1. Carnegie Mellon, currently ranked fifth in Region VII, has won its last three and is now 5-0-3. 

The Tartans, despite owning a 14-3 edge in shots and a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal, went into the break leading 1-0 on Zach Schonwetter's goal in the 28th minute. James Ashby assisted on Carnegie Mellon's first half score. 

Carnegie Mellon scored three goals in a six-minute stretch early in the second, which included back-to-back goals by Leonardo Serodio. Paxton Hafner netted the Tartans' fifth goal in the 66th minute before Drew McKim closed out the scoring in the 74th minute. 

Junior Aaron Snyder (Hatboro, Pa., Upper Moreland) worked the first 62 minutes in goal, allowing four goals and making four saves. Senior Noah Wolford (Butler, Pa., Butler) entered in the 29th minute and gave up a pair of goals while stopping three shots. 

Carnegie Mellon outshot Westminster 28-8 and had 13 shots on goal to just two for Westminster. The Tartans finished with a 6-1 edge in corner kicks. 

Up next:
Westminster will open its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) slate Wednesday against Waynesburg. The match is scheduled to get underway at 7:30 p.m. at the UPMC Sports Complex.
