Forrest, Piraino, Dale named Academic All-District®

GREENWOOD, Ind.--Three members of Westminster College's men's cross country and track and field programs were recognized by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) with Academic All-District® honors Tuesday afternoon. Recent graduates Jacob Forrest (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) and Gino Piraino (Export, Pa., Franklin Regional), along with rising junior Isaiah Dale (Claysville, Pa., McGuffey), were recognized. 

This is the second-straight year Forrest has been honored. 

The Academic All-District® teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes cross country/track and field honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

Forrest graduated magna cum laude on May 10 with a bachelor's degree in history and carried a 3.81 cumulative grade-point average (GPA). He was named to the College's Dean's List all eight semesters and has been named to the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Academic Honor Roll three times. At the PAC Indoor Championships, Forrest was seventh in the shot put with a best mark of 12.56 meters (41-02.50) and ninth in the weight throw (11.75m, 38-06.75). He finished 12th in the shot put at the PAC Outdoor Championships with a best mark of 12.26 meters (40-02.75).

Piraino graduated cum laude on May 10 with a bachelor's degree in finance and a 3.60 cumulative GPA. This is his first Academic All-District® honor. Piraino finished ninth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.45) and 22nd in the 400 meters (56.39) at the PAC Indoor Championships. At this year's PAC Outdoor Championships, he was 17th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1 minute, 12.10 seconds. 

Dale, a biology major, earned Academic All-District® recognition for the first time in his career. He carries a 3.53 cumulative GPA. He is a two-time Dean's List honoree and has been named to the PAC Academic Honor Roll one time. At the PAC Indoor Championships, Dale finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.09 seconds and was 18th in the 400 (55.22). At the PAC Outdoor Championships, he won the 400-meter hurdles (56.72) and was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles (16.43). He was also a part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished third (41.79) and the 4x400-meter relay team that finished sixth (3:30.22).

Westminster finished fourth at the PAC Indoor Championships totaling 81 points at the 16-event championship and finished with three individual champions. At the PAC Outdoor Championships, Westminster came in fifth totaling 89 points at the two-day, 19-event championship and finished with two individual champions. 

Academic standing:
  • Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
  • Student-athletes must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination either as undergraduates or graduate students. Only the school at which an athlete competed in the current academic year can nominate that player.
  • Student-athletes who have graduated from their own institution during the current academic year and are not competing in athletics at another institution at the time of nomination are eligible.
  • An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale).
  • A graduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) as both an undergraduate and a graduate student, unless they are in their first semester as a graduate student and don't have an established graduate GPA.
  • The cumulative grade-point average may not be rounded up to 3.50.
Athletic eligibility: Sport-specific nomination criteria

CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD--Eligible nominees will be based off TFRRS regional performance rankings at the time of nomination. Note: Only individual ranked performances are to be used for eligibility. If a student-athlete has participated in a RELAY EVENT, that can bolster the nomination but the basic criteria to be met is for INDIVIDUAL performances. Relays cannot be the basis for eligibility.
  • NCAA institutions: 
    • Cross Country: Top-50 individual performance at the 2024 NCAA regional competition 
    • Track and Field: Top-50 regional ranking in single event (indoor or outdoor)
