Koehler wins 1500 in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.--Westminster junior Dalton Koehler (Chardon, Ohio, Fairport Harding) won the 1500 meters Friday afternoon at the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge. 

Hosted by the City of Myrtle Beach, the two-day event is being held at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.

Koehler won the 31-competitor 1500 with a personal-best time of 4:20.78. It's the fifth-best time in program history. Freshman Dillon Brunner (Pittsburgh, Pa., Upper Saint Clair) finished eighth (4:29.24).

Senior Jalen Ritzert (Greenville, Pa., Greenville) finished 18th in the javelin with a top throw of 40.85 meters (134-00). Freshman Nathan Heirendt (McDonald, Pa., Fort Cherry) was 25th (36.49m, 119-08).

Freshman Jackson Friday (Bethel Park, Pa., Bethel Park) was 24th in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles (18.29) while freshman Zach Kovell (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) was 24th in the preliminaries of the 100 meters (11.08).

Westminster will wrap up the Myrtle Beach Collegiate Challenge Saturday. Events are scheduled to get underway at 10 a.m.
