Westminster hits triple digits in win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--Four players finished in double figures Saturday, helping the Westminster College men's basketball team secure a 101-71 victory over Penn State Shenango on the second day of the 34th annual Buzz Ridl Classic on Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

Saturday was the program's first time scoring 100 points since its 102-98 overtime victory at W&J on Jan. 18, 2023. 

Senior DJ Harrell (Cleveland, Ohio, East Technical) paced the Titans with 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He added five rebounds and a pair of assists. Freshman Lucas Stanley (New Castle, Pa., Union) fired in 23 points, going 8-of-15 from the floor, including a 7-of-14 clip from three-point range. Senior Drew Weir (Salem, Ohio, Salem) finished with a 14-point, 16-rebound double-double. Weir's 16 boards were a career high. Freshman Nick Ryan (Warren, Ohio, John F. Kennedy) chipped in with a career-high 13 points and eight rebounds in 16 reserve minutes. 

Westminster, up 48-41 at the half, saw its lead whittled down to five, 53-48, on an Izzy Santiago jumper with just over 16 minutes left. The Titans went on a 15-0 run over the next 4:10 to pull ahead by 17, 65-48. Harrell had six during the run. 

Santiago scored 35 to lead Penn State Shenango. Darius Williams added 10 points and six rebounds. 

Westminster shot 52.9 percent (36-68) from the floor and went 16-of-37 (.432) from three-point range. The Titans finished with a commanding 47-33 edge on the glass and outscored the Lions' bench 48-10. 

Up next:
Westminster (2-1) will travel to New Concord, Ohio next Saturday to take on Muskingum (3-0). Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
