Shiderly scores second-place shot put finish

GENEVA, Ohio--Senior Lexi Shiderly (New Castle, Pa., Mohawk) recorded a runner-up finish in the shot put to headline the Westminster College women's indoor track and field program's performance Saturday at the SPIRE Midwest Open. 

Cleveland State University's Grace Frye won the 71-person event with a top throw of 12.68 meters (41-07.25). Shiderly was second with a season-best throw of 12.39m (40-07.75). Junior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) was ninth in the shot put with a top throw of 11.57 meters (37-11.50) while junior Rachel Brady (Columbus, Pa., Corry) finished 14th in the weight throw (12.50m, 41-00.25) and 20th in the shot put (10.42m, 34-02.25). 

Graduate student Madison Conley (New Castle, Pa., New Castle) and freshman Grace Iwig (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) tied for fifth place in the Elite section of the pole vault, clearing a season-best 3.15 meters (11-03.75). Iwig also finished 13th in the high jump (1.55m, 5-01). Junior Missy Treharne (Burton, Ohio, Beaumont School) and freshman Alaina Gatto (Warren, Pa., Warren) tied for ninth in the pole vault (3.15m, 10-04).

Westminster is scheduled to participate in Youngstown State University's Mid-Major Invitational, presented by Southwoods Health, next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 31-Feb. 1.
