Westminster women drop regular season finale

BEAVER, Pa.--The Westminster College women's swimming and diving program fell to longtime non-conference rival the University of Mount Union 178-107 Saturday at Beaver Area High School.

Mount Union ran its regular season dual meet record to 8-2. Westminster fell to 3-6 in dual meet action this season. 

Freshman Preslie Bodine (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) and junior Isabella Barnabei (Oakland, N.J., Indian Hills) won individual swimming events for Westminster. Bodine claimed a victory in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 13.51 seconds and also finished third in the 200 breaststroke (2:46.70). Barnabei won the 200 IM with a time of 2:31.51 and finished in fourth place in the 500 freestyle (5:51.14). 

Junior Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa., Carlynton) finished second in the 50 freestyle (26.16) and 100 freestyle (57.01) while freshman Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) was second in the 200 freestyle (2:03.79) and the 500 freestyle (5:31.00). 

Senior Lauren Tanis (Reading, Pa., Fleetwood) finished in second place in the 1000 freestyle (12:06.97) and junior Christina Loewe (Austin, Texas, Veritas Academy) was second in the 200 backstroke (2:20.52) and third in the 200 butterfly (2:27.20). Junior Sara Swanson (Avondale, Ariz., Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS)) was second in the 200 IM (2:37.19).

Sophomore Alexa Young (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mount Lebanon) was second in the 1-meter, 5-dive event (138.20) and the 1-meter, 6-dive event (178.60). 

McClain, MacMurdo, Loewe and Tanis closed out the dual meet with a win in the 200 freestyle relay, posting a time of 1:47.72. The 200 medley relay, made up of Loewe, Bodine, McClain and MacMurdo, finished in second place (1:58.12).

The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championships are scheduled for Wednesday-Saturday, February 14-17 at Grove City College's James E. Longnecker Pool.
