Shiderly registers pair of top-5 finishes at Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio--Westminster College senior Lexi Shiderly (New Castle, Pa., Mohawk) headlined the women's indoor track and field program's efforts Friday at the Youngstown State University Icebreaker, presented by Southwoods Health. 

The unscored, season-opening event was held inside YSU's Watson & Tressel (WATTS) Center.

Shiderly scored a fourth-place finish in the weight throw with a top mark of 13.09 meters (42-11.50) and was fifth in the nine-thrower ELITE flight of the shot put with a top throw of 12.19 meters (40-00).

Graduate student Breannda Davis (Streetsboro, Ohio, Streetsboro) and junior Ryann Essey (Aliquippa, Pa., Hopewell) tied for sixth place in the high jump with a best effort of 5.15 meters (5-01.25). Davis was also 16th in the long jump (5.15m, 16-10.75) and 16th in the shot put (9.47m, 31-00.00). Essey finished 17th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles (9.97).

Junior Missy Treharne (Burton, Ohio, Beaumont School) and freshman Alaina Gatto (Warren, Pa., Warren) tied for sixth place in the pole vault. Treharne cleared 3.40 meters (11-01.75) on her first attempt; Gatto did so on her third attempt at the height. 

Junior Shelby Rambo (East Palestine, Ohio, Crestview) finished eighth in the ELITE flight of the shot put with a top throw of 11.63 meters (38-02.00). She was also 12th in the weight throw (10.90m, 35-09.25). 

Junior Monica Curtis (Harborcreek, Pa., Harbor Creek) was 17th in the mile with a time of 5 minutes, 49.26 seconds. 

Westminster will return to competition on Friday, January 19 at Ohio Northern University's Rob and Patty Lydic Invitational.
