Westminster women victorious in home opener

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's swimming and diving program earned a 153-119 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet victory over Washington & Jefferson College Saturday afternoon at the Westminster Natatorium. 

Westminster is 1-1 this season while W&J fell to 0-4.

Senior Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa., Carlynton) won the 50 free with a time of 26.43 seconds, the 100 free (58.42) and the 200 free (2:10.56). Senior Christina Loewe (Austin, Texas, Veritas Academy) won the 200 back (2:22.28) and finished second in both the 100 back (1:05.24) and 100 fly (1:09.36). Sophomore Preslie Bodine (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) won the 100 breast (1:16.34) and was second in the 200 breast (2:52.84). Senior Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) won the 500 free (5:48.77) and finished second in the 200 fly (2:28.58).

Senior Amber Krebs (Whitewater, Wis., Whitewater) was second in the 1000 free (12:24.11), senior Isabella Barnabei (Oakland, N.J., Indian Hills) finished second in the 200 free (2:13.79) and senior Sara Swanson (Avondale, Ariz., Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS)) finished second in the 200 IM (2:41.67).

Junior Alexa Young (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mount Lebanon) won both the 1-meter (159.35) and 3-meter (167.70) diving events. 

In the 200 medley relay, Westminster finished second (1:59.99). Members of the relay included Loewe, Bodine, Barnabei and MacMurdo. Westminster's "A" relay finished second in the 400 free (4:14.92). Members of the relay included Bodine, Swanson, Barnabei and Krebs.

Westminster hosts Allegheny College next Saturday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
