Westminster women earn conference dual meet win at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa.--The Westminster College women's swimming and diving program earned a 151-60 dual meet victory Friday night over Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) rival Allegheny College at Mellon Pool. 

Westminster pushed its overall dual meet record to 2-3 this season, including a 2-0 mark in the PAC. Allegheny fell to 1-7 overall and 1-4 against league competition. 

Junior Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa., Carlynton) won the 100 freestyle with a time of 58.99 seconds and the 200 freestyle (2:11.42) and finished second in the 50 freestyle (26.73). Freshman Maddy McClain (Elizabeth, Pa., Elizabeth Forward) won the 500 freestyle (5:38.45) and the 1000 freestyle (11:28.90).

Junior Christina Loewe (Austin, Texas, Veritas Academy) won the 50 backstroke (31.55) and finished second in the 50 butterfly (30.85) and 200 backstroke (2:27.45). Junior Isabella Barnabei (Oakland, N.J., Indian Hills) won the 200 IM (2:32.13) while freshman Preslie Bodine (Poland, Ohio, Poland Seminary) won the 50 breaststroke (33.69) 

Sophomore Alexa Young (Pittsburgh, Pa., Mount Lebanon) won both diving events, finishing with 168.45 points on the 1-meter board and 171.75 points on the 3-meter board. 

Senior Olivia Herman (Hamburg, N.Y., Hamburg) was second in the 50 breaststroke (35.48), the 200 breaststroke (2:45.78) and the 200 IM (2:36.88). Junior Sara Swanson (Avondale, Ariz., Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies (OIAIS)) was second in the 200 freestyle (2:15.53) while senior Lauren Tanis (Reading, Pa., Fleetwood) finished second in the 100 freestyle (1:01.50). Freshman Annabelle Turner (Butler, Pa., Butler) was second in the 200 butterfly (2:32.07).

Loewe, senior Paul Kallaur (Bethel Park, Pa., Homeschooled), junior Samuel Duda (Tulsa, Okla., Bishop Kelley) and MacMurdo combined to win the 400 medley relay with a time of 4:03.27. Juniors Cory Webster (Coraopolis, Pa., Moon) and Michael Phillips (Saxonburg, Pa., Knoch), along with Tanis and McClain,  finished second in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:46.15. 

Westminster will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 20 at Chatham University. Events at the Sigo Falk Natatorium are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
