Cummins finishes third in 58-player field

NORTH EAST, Pa.--The Westminster College men's golf team posted a runner-up finish at the Mercyhurst University Spring Invitational this weekend.

The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by the Lake View Country Club. Ten teams and 58 players competed Friday and Saturday.

Gannon University won the team title with a two-round score of 578 (287-291). Westminster finished second with a 606 (298-308).

Gannon's Abe Holmes captured medalist honors with a 143 (71-72).

Seniors Calen Cummins (Allison Park, Pa. | Hampton) and Sam Napper (Mt Pleasant, Pa. | Mt Pleasant) recorded top five finishes to pace the Titans. Cummins was third with a 147 (71-76) while Napper tied with four other players in fourth place with a 149 (73-76).

Senior Jacob Stuckert (Pittsburgh, Pa. | North Hills) tied for 18th with a 154 (77-77) while sophomore Gavin Batdorff (Berlin Center, Ohio | South Range) tied for 22nd with a 156 (77-79). Sophomore Ellian Ascencio (Venetia, Pa. | Peters Township) rounded out Westminster's scorers with a 159 (80-79), which tied for 29th place.

Westminster is scheduled to be back in action on Sunday at Gannon's Spring Invitational. The single-round event will be hosted by Whispering Woods Golf Club in Erie.
