Westminster women fall to Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa.--The Westminster College women's swimming and diving program was dealt a 177-111 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) dual meet loss by visiting Grove City College Thursday night. 

Westminster dropped to 4-3 in dual meets and 3-2 in PAC duals. Grove City improved to 7-1 overall and 5-0 in conference duals. 

Graduate student Megan Routch (Imperial, Pa. | West Allegheny) and sophomore Christina Loewe (Austin, Texas | Veritas Academy) each earned a pair of individual victories Thursday. 

Routch won the 1000 freestyle in 11 minutes, 34.12 seconds and the 500 freestyle in 5:33.22. She also posted a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle (2:04.72).

Loewe recorded a winning time of 1:01.84 in the 100 backstroke and a time of 2:15.75 in the 200 backstroke. She finished third in the 100 butterfly (1:05.18). 

Sophomore Sara MacMurdo (Pittsburgh, Pa. | Carlynton) was the runner-up in the 50 freestyle (25.97) and finished third in the 100 freestyle (57.46). 

Freshman Alexa Young
(Pittsburgh, Pa. | Mount Lebanon) was the runner-up in both the one-meter (179.65) and three-meter (181.20) diving events. 

Junior Olivia Herman (Hamburg, N.Y. | Hamburg) was third in the 100 breaststroke (1:16.47) and the 200 breaststroke (2:43.84). Sophomore Isabella Barnabei (Oakland, N.J. | Indian Hills) finished third in the 100 butterfly (2:35.60) and the 200 IM (2:32.45). 

Senior Shannon Geer (Greensburg, Pa. | Hempfield), Herman, Loewe and MacMurdo opened the meet with a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:59.12). 

MacMurdo, Routch, freshman Natalie Carlantonio (Slippery Rock, Pa. | Slippery Rock) and junior Lauren Tanis (Reading, Pa. | Fleetwood) finished as the runner-up in the 400 freestyle relay (3:57.75) to close the meet. 


Westminster closes its dual meet season Saturday at Mount Union. Events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
