NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster baseball team lost both games of its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at home against Washington and Jefferson Saturday afternoon. The titans lost game one 3-0 and game two 5-3.
"We have to flush today and move forward," said head coach
Patrick Riley. "Today was a good sample of what playoff baseball is going to be like. We need to have a strong mindset tomorrow."
Westminster (22-16, 17-9 PAC) held Washington and Jefferson (31-8, 24-2 PAC) scoreless through the first three innings until the Presidents scored two runs in the fourth and maintained its lead for the remainder of the game. First-year
Jake Vitale (New Castle, PA / Union) collected a strikeout in 3.2 innings on the mound.
In game two, the Titans were able to gain the early momentum as they led 3-0 after the second inning. However, the Presidents took the lead after they registered four runs in the third inning and kept the lead for the rest of the game. Sophomore
Logan Exler (Verona, PA / Serra Catholic) tallied a team-high three strikeouts in five innings of work.
Westminster was led by seniors
James Diamond (Moon Twp, PA / Moon Area) and
Seth Schrader (Fredonia, NY / Fredonia) with first-year
Braeden Campbell (Glenshaw, PA / Shaler) as each one recorded a run-batted-in.
The Titans are back in action Sunday, April 8 as they conclude their series against Washington and Jefferson in Washington, Pa. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
