WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster baseball team lost, 18-3, on the road against Washington and Jefferson in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup in its regular season finale Sunday afternoon.
"We are looking forward to getting the opportunity to compete for a PAC Championship," said head coach
Patrick Riley. "This has been a special group and a team we think that can make a serious run at a championship. As competitors, all you can ask is for an opportunity to compete in the playoffs and see what we can do."
Westminster (22-17, 17-10 PAC) gained the early advantage after sophomore
Logan Murgenovich (Aliquippa, PA / Central Valley) batted-in classmate
Carter Chinn (Grove City, PA / Grove City) from third in the first inning. However, Washington and Jefferson (32-8, 25-2 PAC) was able to take the lead in the second inning and kept the lead for the rest of the game.
The Titans were led by sophomores
Jake Dockum (Fairport, NY / Allendale Columbia) and
Donald Shimko (Greensburg, PA / Greater Latrobe) along with Murgenovich as each of them recorded a run-batted-in.
Westminster earned the fourth-seed for the PAC Tournament and will compete against at top-seeded Washington and Jefferson. A date and start time is to be announced.
