Softball: Titans Split with Franciscan

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Westminster softball team spilt its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on the road against Franciscan Tuesday afternoon.

"We're being taught that if we don't come into each game with a high intensity, our opponents are going to take advantage of that," said head coach Jan Reddinger.

In game one, Westminster (27-4, 14-2 PAC)) took a commanding 6-0 after sophomore Riley Lewis (Clinton, PA / Hopewell) batted-in first-year Mia Meholick (Dubois, PA / Dubois Central Catholic) and junior Emma Gurley (Painesville, OH / Gilmore Academy). The Titans kept Franciscan (7-19, 3-11 PAC) at bay for the remainder of the game to secure the win. Senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) picked up her 13th win of the season with a game-best four strikeouts.

In game two, the Titans were able to build some momentum in the second and third inning, however, they could not overcome the Barons' lead. Junior Abbegail Froehlich (Pittsburgh, PA / Plum) collected three strikeouts, while pitching for 5.1 innings.

The Titans were led by Lewis, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs-batted-in during game one, followed by junior Leah Pancake (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local), who went 2-for-3 with two runs-batted-in during game one.

Westminster returns to action Wednesday, April 27 at Allegheny for a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
