Softball: Titans Sweep Chatham in Shutout Fashion, Clinch No. 1 Seed for PACs

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Westminster softball team swept Chatham in dominant shutout fashion to close out the regular season on the road Saturday.

The Titans won game one, 13-0, followed by a 14-0 win in the nightcap – both games ending in the fifth inning.

"The bats came back again today," said head coach Jan Reddinger. "We're hoping to take that into the playoffs."

Juniors Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel) and Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) both connected on a game-high three RBIs in game one. The Titans had six extra-base hits, led by Atkins and junior Leah Pancake (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local) who each had a triple. Senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) (14-2) was just as dominant on the mound, only giving up one hit to go along with four strikeouts.

The Titans continued its offensive clinic and dominant pitching in game two. First-year Sydney Lokay (North Huntington, PA / Norwin) highlighted the game with the first home run of her collegiate career. Sophomore Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) pitched four shutout innings, only allowing three hits, and earning three strikeouts. Malczak added an RBI-double, while Atikins tallied her second triple of the day.

Westminster (29-4, 16-2 PAC), who was ranked No. 8 in Region VII in the latest NCAA Division III regional rankings, has earned the top seed and hosting rights for this year's PAC Championship Tournament. It will host the double-elimination tournament Thursday and Friday, May 5-6 in New Wilmington.
