ERIE, Pa. - The Westminster baseball team lost its non-conference doubleheader on the road against Penn State Behrend Sunday afternoon. The Titans lost game one 8-7 and lost game two 6-1.Â
"We competed hard against a good Behrend team who won two games in the NCAA Tournament last year," said head coach Patrick Riley. "A lot of guys were able to play, which is always important. We are going to reflect on this and quickly move forward towards playing good baseball down the stretch."Â
In game one, Westminster (19-12) was able to take a 7-1 lead, however, Penn State Behrend (19-10) scored six runs during the sixth inning, tying the game at seven. Later on, the Lions took the lead in the ninth. First-year Dwight Parker (Youngstown, OH / Liberty) collected three strikeouts in four innings for the Titans.Â
During game two, senior Logan Fordyce (Cuyahoga Falls, OH / Cuyahoga Falls) put the Titans on the board, after he batted-in sophomore Chase Tomko (Hermitage, PA / West Middlesex Area), however, the Lions kept the lead for the remainder of the game. On the mound, first-year Adam Coppins (Lewiston, NY / Lewiston-Porter) registered a career-best four strikeouts.Â
The Titans were led by first-year Marco Gambino (Pittsburgh, PA / Thomas Jefferson), who went a perfect 2-for2 with a career-high two runs-batted-in. Â
Westminster is next scheduled to compete Wednesday, April 27 as it hosts Thiel in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) matchup. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.Â
