NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - The Westminster softball team split its Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader at home against Waynesburg on Saturday afternoon. The Titans lost game one 7-2 and won game two 5-2.Â
"It definitely gave us a lot of adversity," said head coach Jan Reddinger. "We really wanted to see how we came out in the second game. We could have just folded, or we could have come back and fought. They came back and fought, so we liked what we saw there."Â
In game one, Westminster (26-3, 13-1 PAC) took the early lead after junior Leah Pancake (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local) batted-in classmate Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary), making it 1-0. However, Waynesburg (21-8, 10-4 PAC) scored the next four runs and kept the lead for the rest of the game. Senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) tallied a strikeout in four innings of work.Â
Game two was highlighted by first-year Mia Meholick's (Dubois, PA / Central Catholic) first-career home run that tied the game at two. In the sixth inning, the Titans scored three more runs and held the Yellow Jackets at bay to secure the win. Sophomore Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) improved to 13-1 on the season with three strikeouts in the complete-game effort.Â
The Titans were led by Meholick, who went 2-for-3 in game two with a pair of runs-batted-in.Â
Westminster is back in action Tuesday, April 26 at Franciscan for a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.Â
