Softball: Titans Hold Bearcats Scoreless in Sweep, Hand Saint Vincent First PAC Loss

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster softball team swept Saint Vincent at home in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. The Titans won game one 6-0 and game two 4-0.

"The keys to victory was beautiful pitching," said head coach Jan Reddinger. "Leah Pancake did the calling behind the plate and did a fabulous job. It happened to be one of those days that someone came through. Brown and Malczak have been going full games and staying strong, which has been something they have worked on all winter long."

Game one was highlighted by the third inning as Westminster (19-2, 6-0 PAC) scored three runs, capped by junior Leah Pancake's (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local) double that scored classmate Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel), making the score 3-0. Senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) earned her ninth win of the season as she registered a game-best seven strikeouts, while only allowing two hits in the complete-game effort.

"We kept a level head," said Brown. "We have the mentality of just having fun. We just want to keep that mentality of playing loose and playing our own game at our own pace."

In game two, the Titans took a 3-0 lead after Alexis Yates (Oakdale, PA / South Fayette) doubled to bring in sophomore Alexis Petropoulos (Moon Twp., PA / Moon Area) and first-year Mia Meholick (Dubois, PA / Dubois Central Catholic), followed by junior Emma Gurley (Painesville, OH / Gilmore Academy), who batted-in Yates. Sophomore Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) improved to 9-1 on the season with a game-high four strikeouts in the complete-game win.

Westminster was led by Yates, who went 2-for-3 with a three runs-batted-in during game two. Meholick recorded a triple that batted-in junior Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) in game one.

The Titans are back in action Thursday, April 14 at Bethany for a PAC doubleheader. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
