ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Westminster men's lacrosse team lost, 12-11, in overtime on the road against Mount Union in a non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon.
"We always feel we are still in a game no matter what the score is," said head coach
Travis Brown. "When we click on offense, we can put a lot of balls in the net in a short window, which was exactly what we did in the second half."
Westminster (1-1) fought back from a three-goal deficit at halftime (6-3) and regained the lead, 10-8, in the fourth quarter, after sophomore
Payton Waight's (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca) goal with 13:24 left in regulation. However, Mount Union (2-1) scored three of the next four goals to halt Westminster's momentum and send the game into overtime.
"Getting on overtime game under your belt is always a great learning lesson," said Brown.
The Titans were led by junior
Ryan Greer (Cranberry Township, PA / Seneca Valley), who registered game-highs of seven points and four assists to go with a hat-trick of goals. Waight scored a game-best five goals with one assist. Senior
Joe Rosa (Newton, NJ / Kittatinny Regional) tallied a pair of goals and one assist. Sophomore
Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, MD / Loyola Blakefield) chipped in with a goal. Sophomore
Colin O'Malley (Pittsburgh, PA / North Allegheny) set a career-best with 13 ground balls and tied a career-high with three caused turnovers.
The Titans are next scheduled to compete on Wednesday, March 9 as they host La Roche in a non-conference bout. Start time is set for 7:30 p.m.
