NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team lost, 16-15, at home against Marymount in a non-conference showdown Sunday afternoon.
"We are proud of our guys for staying in the game and competing when we were down," said head coach
Travis Brown. "We are really talented and always believe we are in the game and we can win no matter what the score is."
When trailing 16-13 with 5:14 left in the game, Westminster (4-2) gained momentum after first-year
Gavin Jones (Henrico, VA / Douglas S. Freema) scored to bring the Titans within two. With 1:36 left, junior
Ryan Greer Ryan Greer (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) found the back of the net making in 16-15. In last minute, Westminster had opportunities to score, but were unable to.
The Titans were led by sophomore
Payton Waight (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca), who scored a game-best six points with three assists and a hat-trick of goals. Jones tied a career-high four goals (a team-best). Greer notched two points with a pair of goals and assists. Junior
Hamish Mathwin (Marion, Australia / Westminster) registered two goals. Junior
Boyd Foster (Lincoln, RI / Lincoln) collected three points with a goal and a pair of assists. On defense, senior
Mike Roman (Fort Washington, PA / Germantown Academy) led the charge with a team-high six ground balls and a game-best three caused turnovers.
"Our offense really hit a great groove today," said Brown. "Our man down unit stood strong and we are ready to go to Buffalo next weekend and compete for a win."
Sophomore goalkeeper
Bradley Green (Landisville, PA / Hempfield) collected eight saves in the complete-game effort.
Westminster is back in action Saturday, March 26 at Medaille in a non-conference matchup. Start time is set for 12 p.m.
