Softball: Titans Finish Fastpitch Dreams Classic on a High Note

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Westminster softball team concluded the Fastpitch Dreams Classic trip with a 3-2 win over Mansfield, followed by an 8-1 win over Albertus Magnus Friday afternoon.

"We faced two good pitchers today," said head coach Jan Reddinger. "It took us awhile to figure them out, but we eventually did. We needed to figure out things quicker in a game and work together as a team and we did that today."

Against Mansfield (4-6) in the bottom of the seventh with a runner on second and third, junior Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) singled to left field to bring sophomore Alexis Petropoulos (Moon Twp., PA / Moon Area) across home plate for the walk-off win. On the mound, senior Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) collected the complete-game win with a season- and game-high eight strikeouts.

In game two, Westminster (8-1) rattled off six runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory. Sophomore Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) earned the win on the hill with game-best eight strikeouts in the complete-game effort.

The Titans were led by Wire, who went a combined 3-for-8 to go with three runs-batted-in on the day. Junior Leah Pancake (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local) batted-in three runs against Albertus Magnus (4-6). Juniors Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel) and Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) each notched two runs-batted-in against the Falcons.

Westminster is back in action Thursday, March 24 as it hosts Hiram in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
