MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Westminster softball team opened its 2022 campaign at the Fastpitch Dreams Classic with a pair of dominant wins. The Titans won, 10-0, over Worcester State in game one and, 13-1, over SUNY Polytechnic Institute in the nightcap – both in five innings.

Jan Reddinger. "This trip is a great jump start to the season The entire team worked together today - from hitting, fielding, pitching to the dugout. They stayed focused."
Junior
Ashley Wire (Poland, OH / Poland Seminary) went a combined 5-for-5 with a team-high five RBIs, to go along with three runs scored. Junior
Mackenzie Latess (New Castle, PA / Laurel) connected on two doubles, while classmate
Brooke Atkins (New Castle, PA / Laurel) went 6-for-7 with a team-best five runs scored, to go along with a double.
In game one against Worcester State, Latess got the scoring started with a two-run double in the first inning. Wire and junior
Leah Pancake (North Lima, OH / Beaver Local) followed with back-to-back two-run singles and the Titans led 7-0 after two innings of play. Sophomore
Riley Lewis (Clinton, PA / Hopewell) added a two-run single in the fifth. Senior pitcher
Madison Brown (Lisbon, OH / East Liverpool) earned the season-opening win with four scoreless innings and six strikeouts.
The Titans continued their offensive prowess in their second game versus SUNY Poly with a nine-run first inning. First-year
Mia Meholick (Dubois, PA / Dubois Area Catholic) started the scoring spree with a three-run double in the first. Sophomore pitcher
Elizabeth Malczak (Grove City, PA / Grove City) only allowed two hits and a run, while striking out three, for her first win of the season.
The Titans will continue their spring break trip with two non-conference games on Monday, March 14. Westminster will face UMass Boston at 1:30 p.m., followed by Keystone at 3:30 p.m.
