READING, Pa. – The Westminster men's lacrosse team won, 12-6, on the road against Alvernia in a non-conference bout Sunday.
"We used our depth and played 34 guys in the game today," said head coach
Travis Brown. "We followed our plan and executed in the areas we needed to."
Titan first-year
Gavin Jones (Henrico, VA / Douglas S. Freeman) led the way with a career- and game-high four goals – including Westminster's first three of the contest.
"We as a program have known all year what Gavin is capable of," Brown said. "We just needed him to hit his groove and see a few go in the back of the net. He's been a first-year on our first line all season. We've believed in him and we are glad he got his today."
Jones scored the first two goals of the game and the Titans led 5-1 after one quarter. Westminster outscored the Golden Wolves, 3-1, in the second quarter and had an 8-2 halftime lead. Both teams scored four goals in the second half.
Titan junior
Ryan Greer (Cranberry Twp, PA / Seneca Valley) totaled a game-high five points, including a game-best three assists. Following Jones's four points were sophomores
Payton Waight (Ithaca, NY / Ithaca) and
Jimmy Sentz (Catonsville, MD / Loyola Blakefield) with two points apiece.
Junior
Jarred Kohl (York, PA / York Catholic) earned the first win of his collegiate career between the pipes in a complete game effort, while earning a career-high five saves.
Westminster will next compete at Davis & Elkins in Elkins, W.V. on Tuesday, March 15.
