Women’s Basketball: Titans Edge Chatham in PAC Classic

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Westminster women's basketball team outscored Chatham 18-10 in the fourth quarter to win, 46-43, as it picked up its fourth consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory Monday night.

"They did a great job of taking us out of our rhythm on offense," said head coach Rosanne Scott. "We kind of got our bearings and made some shots and offensively we found what we wanted to do originally. That was the key to get some momentum and on the other end we made some stops."

With less than seven seconds left in the game, sophomore Mariah Vincent (Franklin, PA / Kennedy Catholic) denied a layup attempt by Chatham (14-6, 8-5 PAC) followed by the game-sealing rebound by junior Camden Hergenrother (Salem, OH / Cardinal Mooney). Westminster (13-7, 10-4 PAC) conducted an 11-1 run to finish the final frame to regain the lead after being in a four-point deficit (42-38). The Titans trailed by eight with 7:04 left in the game.

In the first quarter, Westminster jumped out to an early 11-4 lead with 4:16 to play. Chatham pulled within four (13-9) at the end of the first. The second quarter went back and forth in scoring and defensive stops. The Cougars led 20-19 at intermission.

The Titans were led by junior Natalie Murrio (Pittsburgh, PA / Brentwood), who tallied a game-high 17 points with three assists and two steals.  Senior Magen Polczynski (Irwin, PA / Norwin) registered 10 points, six boards, and three steals. Junior Lindsay Bell (Youngstown, OH / Ursuline) chipped in with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Vincent tied a career-high with one denial. Hergenrother notched a team-high four takeaways with three points and six rebounds.

"We didn't really let the 10-point deficit shake us, we kept our heads and played cool," said Murrio. "I think that happened to us a couple times this season where we've come back. We do a good job of getting a stop, then getting a bucket, and then getting another stop. It worked out for us."

The Titans return to the court Wednesday, February 9 as they host Saint Vincent in a PAC matchup. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
